1969 Ford Torino GT

C was my faithful and entertaining navigator during our recent road trip to Nevada.  For three days, he told countless stories-- about his stint in Vietnam, riding boxcars, the joy of firearms, etc.  He recounted almost all of his automotive experiences.

This was his first car.  The San Francisco native wanted a Torino.  His uncle got a good deal from a dealership in Detroit.  C called the same dealer, bought this $3,400 Torino, and flew to Detroit to pick it up.  This picture was taken at a rest stop along Interstate 80, on his way back to California, in October 1968.  The engine displaced 390 cubic inches, had a four barrel carburetor, and a four speed manual transmission.  With close to single digit gas mileage, this car was gone as soon as the Gas Crisis hit.
